Need For Strategic Insight, Courage and Leadership in Industry & Politics
A Letter from Warren Young, President & CEO

Frustration has continued to rise since the debate in Washington over the national debt ceiling causing many of us to question our elected politicians’ strategic insight, courage and leadership.

As business leaders, it might be fair to ask ourselves a similar question. Have we had the strategic insight, courage and leadership to address the issues facing our industry today? Have we taken on the difficult task of evolving to meet current market needs or have we simply relied on past successes in hopes of reaping similar results in the future?

In today’s world, business leaders like politicians have to continually innovate, strategize and lead. This can be challenging. It requires thoughtful evaluation in addition to a strong ability to listen to market needs and concerns. And, it demands the courage to act upon market information.

Nearly a year ago, Acme created a strategic taskforce to take a hard look at our business. We talked to our customers, evaluated our business model, and identified changes in market demand. After months of hard work, we introduced our unique value promise and market positioning—Beyond Precision. With our value promise universally understood, we recommended fundamental changes to our business approach in order to better communicate our competitive advantage.

A Customer's Perspective: Jeff Ledbetter – Cost Reduction Manager
Jeff Ledbetter is the Cost Reduction Manager for Komatsu America. Headquartered in Peoria, Illinois, Komatsu America is one of the nation’s largest OEMs for large mining trucks. As the dynamic force behind Komatsu’s strategic supply chain management, Jeff expedites the company’s initiatives to meet its skyrocketing growth.

How did you first learn about Acme Industries?
As Komatsu began their path to divest themselves of their internal machining capabilities, they sought out Tier I suppliers that matched their needs and could grow and absorb the sometimes cyclical patterns of their key markets. They sought long-term relationships with contract CNC companies within a close proximity that could be counted on to develop creative and customizable solutions for their particular manufacturing challenges. Acme Industries fit the need perfectly with their Beyond Precision value promise.

What experience(s) have you had with Acme that has demonstrated Beyond Precision customer service?
As our relationship has developed, Acme has consistently evolved and adapted to our short and long term needs. There are a large number of contract CNC companies that compete for this type of work, but it’s been Acme’s level of service and management beyond the machining of parts that has been critical to success. This expertise has included material management, inventory management, problem solving, customer service, and their ability to constantly adapt to complex issues.

From a customer’s perspective, what sets Acme apart from other competitors?
Acme is reliable, professional, proactive, adaptable, and they have the strategic insight to understand Komatsu’s business plan and exceed expectations for delivering its best-in-class services.

What company values stood out the most to you while working with Acme?
I have been working with Acme for nearly 10 years and have developed a meaningful, strategic partnership supported by core company values like leadership, capability, flexibility, honesty, and integrity. Acme is the model manufacturing partner who takes customers Beyond Precision to deliver superior service and results.
