Acme Industries Celebrates its 60th Anniversary
August 11, 2008
Acme Industries is celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2008. Founded in 1948 on the near west side of Chicago, the company’s original name was Acme Tool & Specialties. The initial products of the company were machined and stamped parts, electro-mechanical components and automation equipment. The operations were moved to its current location in Des Plaines in 1965 and the facilities were expanded in 1977, 1987, 1998 and 2006. Acme’s product/service changed during the 1970’s to contract precision machining and it has been increasing its capabilities ever since. In the last few years, the company has been enjoying a high growth rate as it has expanded its customer base and the industries it serves. This growth has been aided by the development of strategic global and domestic partners, the high level of customer service, and the implementation of Lean Manufacturing to improve its internal operations. As the company celebrates its 60th year, it is embarking on one of its biggest projects ever to consolidate its operations from three buildings into one. Acme Industries will be moving to Elk Grove by the end of the year and will have 60% more space than it has today to continue to grow and serve its customers well.
