PROJECT MANAGEMENT WITH MILITARY PRECISION
July 15, 2009
Protecting US soldiers traveling in vehicles from roadside bombs and IED’s came to the forefront of US Military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan over four years ago. The demand for Mine Resistant Ambush Protection (MRAP) and other armored vehicles grew overwhelmingly in a short period of time. One of Acme Industries’ customers, a contractor to the US Army, was in need of quickly producing a large amount of armor appliqué for their trucks. Acme stepped in to successfully manage a complex project consisting of 14 separate aluminum armor plates. Acme set forth and met an aggressive schedule to supply the armor packages within months.
Purchasing the plate directly from 2 aluminum mills in the United States, Acme coordinated their shipment to 3 water-jet sources in the Midwest who cut the plates to Acme’s near-net specifications. The blanks were then shipped to Acme and 2 other machining sources for final machining. The final operation was consolidating all of the machined parts for shipment to Acme’s military-approved paint source in Indiana. The parts were kitted at the paint source, then shipped weekly to Acme’s customer.
This achievement is illustrative of Acme’s superior capabilities in the complexities of project management and turn-key sourcing. From material recommendation and sourcing to machining, painting, and assembly, Acme Industries’ Production Planning Team provides the level of management you expect and need in today’s globally competitive environment.
